We’re building more than schools. We’re building futures.

Liberia's youth are filled with promise, resilience, and talent—but too many lack access to the education and skills they need to thrive. At Bridging the Gap in Education, we’re creating career-focused vocational high schools to equip young people—especially girls—with the tools to transform their lives and rebuild their nation.

Through effective nonprofit fundraising solutions and international support, we aim to deliver long-term, community-driven impact that promotes sustainable development funding in Liberia.

Why It Matters

Liberia endured two devastating civil wars over 14 years, which left more than 250,000 people dead, displaced over 1.5 million, and collapsed nearly every facet of national infrastructure—including its schools. Today, the impact of civil war on education in Liberia is still deeply felt:

  • Over 40% of school-aged children are out of school.
  • Less than 20% of schools meet basic safety and infrastructure standards.
  • Up to 63% of teachers lack formal training.
  • Youth unemployment is one of the highest in West Africa, with most young people lacking access to employable skills.
  • Only 27% of girls in Liberia complete secondary education, compared to 45% of boys. Barriers such as poverty, early marriage, gender-based violence, and limited access to safe learning environments contribute to this gap. UNICEF Liberia, 2022
  • In Liberia, young women aged 15–24 are nearly twice as likely to be unemployed compared to young men in the same age group. Many lack the vocational training or entrepreneurial support needed to secure meaningful work or start businesses. World Bank, 2021

This is not just a crisis—it’s a missed opportunity. Liberia has one of the youngest populations in Africa. Without intervention, a whole generation will be locked out of the formal economy. Our vocational education model offers a direct solution: skills training, job creation, and entrepreneurial empowerment tailored to the nation’s post-conflict realities.

By investing in education for sustainable development in Liberia, Bridging the Gap in Education addresses both the immediate economic needs of young people and the long-term stability of the country. Every student we train is one more builder of a stronger, safer, and self-reliant Liberia.

Why We Prioritize Girls

In Liberia, girls face extra hurdles: poverty, early marriage, violence, and social stigma. We work to break these barriers by:

  • Prioritizing scholarships for girls
  • Offering safe, inclusive learning environments
  • Encouraging girls to thrive in traditionally male-dominated industries

We believe in building donor trust through initiatives that champion gender equity and measurable results.
